Turing's Top 9 Ahead of 2019

As we near the end of the year, it felt right to take a moment to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of the entire Turing School community this year. Thanks to the help of an amazing community of staff, students, and supporters we are proud to have made all of the achievements below — and so many more in 2018. We will keep moving forward in the year to come, but we can’t do the work we do without our supporters. Your support will help hundreds more students change their lives in 2019, and we thank you in advance.

Now, without further ado, enjoy Turing’s Top 9 as we look forward to 2019!

1. We are proud to be recognized as one of the Best Coding Bootcamps by Course Report! Course Report is one of the most useful resources to prospective students and alumni adding their review really matters.

2. In 2018 alone, 186 students graduated from Turing, bringing our total alumni community to over 600!

3. 125 students received counseling support as part of our emphasis on mental health and educating the whole student. Thanks to the work of our student success team, we have also raised awareness about Medicaid eligibility, which allows students to receive free health services outside of Turing.

4. This year, 26 veterans used the GI Bill to finance their future with Turing. We’re grateful to work with amazing partners like Operation Code and Air Force Wounded Warriors to expose the people who have served our country to opportunities in tech.

5. We’ve met and created partnerships with many amazing organizations, but one we’re especially proud of is the Opportunity@Work Learn and Earn Denver Pilot, which has helped potential students to join Turing without large upfront debt.

6. We worked with Kode with Klossy and Denver Public Schools to train teachers and students in programming. Those teachers, along with our own Amy and Christie, taught programming classes to almost two thousand high school students. Here’s a recap of teaching teenage girls to code.

7. We continued work to close the gap on our enrollment demographic goals. This led to doubling the enrollment of women from 18% to 36% in this year alone and increases in our percentage of Latinx and African-American students.

8. Alumni contributed thousands of hours to 1-on-1 student mentoring. They also donated over $25,000, allowing us to offer $94,000 in scholarships to 17 incoming students. Kayt, our career development coordinator, is growing the mentoring program for 2019 while we continue to use Public Good as our scholarship donation platform. Additionally, a small group of alumni formed the Turing Alumni Committee to better engage and connect our alumni network while supporting Turing’s mission — and they have big plans for 2019. 9. We got our first major grant from the Beacon Fund. Their support has made it possible to kick-off a new part of our program that we believe will radically increase our graduation rate in 2019.

But, most important of all is our infinite desire to keep moving forward. We can’t wait to teach, learn, and grow even more in the year to come — our 5th year in operation!
